Want to learn the proper way to manage mercury products that you are collecting or using? Need a refresher course on how to handle mercury bearing waste at your own facility or at home? Or do you know of a facility that could benefit from this training? MassDEP has prioritized the safe management of toxic substances in the waste stream. Mercury is one of the most common toxic substances found in waters and streams. Learning safe removal and containment of mercury found in the everyday environment is an important skill for all of us to learn. The training will be offered from 10 am-12 noon on the following dates: Wednesday, July 14 Dennis, Dennis Police Dept. Community Room; Tuesday, July 20 Canton, Mass Audubon Visual Arts Center; Wednesday, July 28 Natick, Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary; and Tuesday, August 10 Lenox, Pleasant Valley Sanctuary. All trainings will be followed by a light lunch.

Training will be provided by Todd Dresser, Environmental Scientist from Cuoco & Cormier Engineering Associates. Todd has conducted innumerable mercury cleanouts at schools, businesses and on behalf of governmental offices. He has also made many presentations at conferences and is well versed in the topics to be covered, including: · a review Good Management Practices associated with the collection and storage of mercury as a defined Universal Waste; · a review of the proper storage and handling of Universal Waste; · a refresher on how to use a mercury spill kit: and · a review of common products that contain mercury. The sessions are designed for both the first time attendee as well as those interested in refreshing their training. You are welcome to attend training at any of the locations, but you must pre-register. Questions? Contact mmorris@covantaenergy.com
